SAS’ mission is to increase the number of girls/women who participate in endurance lifetime sports (such as: running, cycling, swimming, and triathlons). SAS recognizes the important role sports play in maintaining a healthy lifestyle including the positive affects sports have on academic achievement, self esteem, and the lowering of health risks such as obesity, high blood pressure, and diabetes.
Being active is not an option, it is a way of life that began for us almost 30 years ago when we started competing in sports as children. Since then we have competed as student-athletes, collegiate athletes, and post-collegiate athletes in track and field, cross country, mountain biking, cycling, duathlons, and triathlons regionally and nationally.
At SAS we strive to recognize, support, and encourage local female athletes who participate in endurance sports through programs such as Girls Get Geared and Student-Athlete Awards, as well as, through acknowledging the accomplishments of local female professional, age-group, and youth athletes.
